Banned Xbox 360 Unusable on Xbox LIVE

Larry Hryb (Major Nelson), director of programming, Xbox LIVE, on his blog, noted that Microsoft is actively banning the modded or hacked consoles meant to play pirated game copies. Also, the Xbox 360 consoles once banned won't be usable again on Xbox LIVE. This raises a flag to avoid buying modded Xbox 360 consoles.

Microsoft has tightened its policies against Xbox 360 consoles modified to play pirated game copies with its Xbox LIVE service. Nelson notes in his blog post, "All consumers should know that piracy is illegal, and that modifying their Xbox 360 console to play pirated discs, violates the Xbox LIVE terms of use, will void their warranty and result in a ban from Xbox LIVE."

However, it should be noted that Xbox 360 console warranty is non-transferable. So, if you've bought a modded console which was banned earlier, won't connect to Xbox LIVE again. This means there's a permanent ban on particular Xbox 360 console on Xbox LIVE service.

What if someone bought an Xbox 360 console which was banned already by mistake? Those consumers who bought modded Xbox 360 by mistake might sell them off to others and move to PlayStation 3 eventually.

Microsoft is taking strong steps against piracy and supports secured gameplay. Apart from game titles, Xbox LIVE is yet another junction for Digital Content downloads for Xbox console.....
